Königssee is an elongated 5.2 km² lake in the southeastern part of the German federal state of Bavaria. The lake was formed during the last ice age by various glaciers and is surrounded by several high mountain peaks. Almost the entire lake belongs to the Berchtesgaden National Park. The name does not come from König.
On the Königssee, 18 large and one small vessel with electric motors operate. The first boats were launched in 1909 and the oldest ship still in use was built in 1920. During the journey, the ship's captain demonstrates the echo of the mountain area with the help of a trumpet.
