The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in the United States and a symbol of San Francisco, California. It spans the Golden Gate Strait, the entrance to San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The bridge connects the city of San Francisco to Marin County to the north.

Completed in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge was considered an engineering marvel of its time. It stretches about 1.7 miles (2.7 kilometers) long, with its main span measuring 4,200 feet (1,280 meters)—making it the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its opening.

The bridge is instantly recognizable by its International Orange color, chosen for visibility in San Francisco’s frequent fog and to harmonize with the natural surroundings. The two towers rise 746 feet (227 meters) above the water, giving the bridge its iconic silhouette.

Today, the Golden Gate Bridge is not only a vital transportation link but also a popular tourist attraction. Millions of visitors come each year to walk, bike, or drive across it, and to enjoy breathtaking views of the bay, Alcatraz Island, and the city skyline.
