Gingee Fort, Tamil Nadu, India | 8K 360° VR | A Fort Built on a Hill

Gingee is not one fortress but three: citadels on the granite hills of Rajagiri, Krishnagiri and Chandrayandurg, bound together by some 13 kilometres of walls. Vijayanagara governors, the sultans of Bijapur, the Marathas, the Mughals, the French and the British all held it in turn. Between 1690 and 1698 a Mughal army laid siege to it while the Maratha king Rajaram sheltered inside — one of the longest sieges in Mughal history. Once called "the Troy of the East", it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2025, one of the Maratha Military Landscapes of India.

In 360°, fly over the granite hills and the walls that bind them together. Pass the granary and the tiered tower of the Kalyana Mahal, rise over boulder-strewn ridges to the ruined buildings on the summits, and look out across the plains of Tamil Nadu. Then come down to the tall gateway tower of the Venkataramana temple at the foot of the hills, and stand inside its hall of stone pillars.
