Scotland's Entire Coastline from a Drone's Eye View : S1e4 Rockcliffe to Balcary Bay
The next chapter of Scotland’s Entire Coastline begins where Episode 3 left off — at Rough Island, looking towards Rockcliffe — and carries us over one of the most storied corners of the Solway.
This time the tide has swallowed the Rough Island causeway completely, hiding the path of rocks and shells beneath calm grey water. The Mavic 3 sweeps over the island itself before turning toward the sheltered curves of Horse Isles Bay and White Horse Bay — stretches once used by sailors, fishermen, and the smugglers who knew every contour of this rugged shore.
From there, we follow the coastline toward Hestan Island, circling its lonely lighthouse as the sea shanty rises and the wind presses across the Firth. Then it’s north toward Balcary Bay, passing over Almorness Point where cliff-lines, sea-carved inlets and the unmistakable Solway atmosphere bring this short but powerful episode to a close.
This instalment is brief — but every moment counts:
walking the cliffs, meeting friendly travellers, and flying the drone through one of the coast’s most dramatic transitions as we push further into Dumfries & Galloway.
If you’re following this Coastline series from the beginning, thank you — each episode moves us one step further on this long, windswept journey around the edge of Scotland.
