Fethiye is a coastal resort town in southwestern Turkey's Muğla Province, originally founded in the 5th century BCE as the Lycian city of Telmessos—known for its oracle and rock-cut tombs—and later evolving through Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman periods before being renamed in 1934 after aviator Fethi Bey, famed for its ancient theater, Ölüdeniz lagoon, and Kayaköy ghost village.
