Haoyue Garden is located on the coast of Fudingyan in the eastern part of Gulangyu. It is a theme park built to commemorate Zheng Chenggong's historical feat of expelling the Dutch and recovering Taiwan. Here is a detailed introduction to Haoyue Garden:
Historical Origin
In 1981, to commemorate Zheng Chenggong's great achievements in expelling the Dutch and reclaiming Taiwan, the provincial and municipal governments decided to build a statue of Zheng Chenggong on Gulangyu. Later, Fudingyan was chosen as the site for the statue.
On August 27, 1985, the giant stone statue of Zheng Chenggong was completed. Meanwhile, "Haoyue Garden"—named after the line "Thinking of you, I cannot sleep; the bright moon shines through the plain curtain" from Collected Works of Yanping Kings—was officially inaugurated.
