Abandoned Soviet Nuclear Warhead Storage Facility in Lithuania
The Zapalskiai Nuclear Warhead Storage Facility, also known as the Šiauliai Nuclear Arsenal, is a former Soviet military base near Šiauliai, Lithuania. Built in the 1950s and operational by around 1960, it was used to securely store and maintain nuclear warheads that were transported to military units across the Lithuanian SSR. The heavily fortified underground facility featured reinforced bunkers, climate-controlled storage, and multiple security perimeters. Today, it is an abandoned Cold War site that serves as a reminder of the Soviet Union's nuclear military infrastructure in the region.
