Q3U VR180 Flex: VR180 camera with adjustable IPD
The Q3U VR180 Flex is the world’s first VR180 camera with adjustable IPD (inter-pupillary distance). Now available as a $100 upgrade from the existing Q3 Ultra VR180 mod, the Flex brings impressive flexibility to VR180 content creation. If you’re interested, contact the creator Siyang Qi.
The Flex mod features a locking knob that allows users to quickly secure or release the lens positions, providing effortless IPD adjustment. The built-in IPD scale ensures precise control, letting you dial in the exact IPD value.
Once locked, the structure remains stable - no wobble or play - ensuring your stereo alignment is perfect throughout the shoot.
Sample footage:
Two Ranges
The Flex mod offers two adjustment ranges:
-
Standard: 53mm–70mm (ideal for most users, especially if you want to match your own IPD for a natural depth effect)
-
Extended: 53mm–77mm (provides a wider range for enhanced 3D on distant subjects; note that the center section won't be fully covered beyond 70mm)
For the first time, immersive creators have the ability to fine-tune their stereo baseline. You can now adjust the depth and spatial feel to match your subject, scene, or even your own natural IPD. Reflect how you see the world or push it into a more artistic or exaggerated direction. The Flex mod unlocks new creative freedom without the cost or complexity of professional cinema rigs.
Mid-shot adjustment
But that’s not all. The Q3U VR180 Flex allows you to adjust the IPD mid-shot, introducing a new visual language in immersive filmmaking. Just like pulling focus or zoom in traditional cinematography, pulling IPD can now be used as a powerful creative tool.
It can guide the viewer’s attention, shift emotional tone, or manipulate depth perception in innovative ways, offering endless possibilities for storytelling in VR180.
Kandao warranty
Additionally, Kandao will now offer a 3-month hardware warranty on all Q3 Ultra VR180 cameras purchased through Siyang, thanks to his track record of zero mod-related defects. That's the same level of support as a regular QooCam 3 Ultra.
What started as a DIY mod is now evolving into something much bigger. Stay tuned for the next exciting steps. Full details at Siyang's Facebook page.
