
Vinnytsia is a city in west-central Ukraine along the Southern Bug River, first recorded in 1363 as a fortress built by Lithuanian Prince Algirdas's nephew Fyodor Koriatovych to defend against Tatar raids, evolving into a key trade center under Polish-Lithuanian rule with Magdeburg rights granted in 1640.
