Turkistan, also spelled Turkestan, is a city in southern Kazakhstan. It is a major historical and cultural center, famous for the stunning Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that attracts pilgrims from across Central Asia. The city has a deep history as a spiritual and political center of the Kazakh Steppe.
