Join me on a walk through the breathtaking mountain village of Masca, one of Tenerife’s most spectacular and remote locations. Nestled high in the rugged Teno Mountains at around 650 metres above sea level, Masca is famous for its dramatic scenery, traditional Canarian architecture, and incredible views over deep ravines and towering volcanic cliffs. Often referred to as the “Machu Picchu of Tenerife”, the village appears to cling to the mountainside, surrounded by some of the island’s most dramatic landscapes. The winding road leading to Masca is considered an attraction in itself, with countless hairpin bends and panoramic viewpoints along the way.

Reaching Masca is part of the adventure. The village is connected to the rest of Tenerife by a narrow mountain road that winds through the spectacular Teno Mountains. The route features countless hairpin bends, steep drops, and sections where passing oncoming vehicles can be challenging. While the drive offers incredible views, it is not recommended for nervous drivers or those unfamiliar with mountain roads.

For this reason, many visitors choose to join an organised excursion. Guided tours typically include transportation, allowing you to enjoy the scenery without the stress of navigating one of Tenerife's most demanding roads. Many tours also combine a visit to Masca with nearby attractions such as Los Gigantes, Garachico, or the famous Masca Gorge hike.
