
Axel Ebbe donated his life's work, sculptures and visual arts, to the city of Trelleborg in 1933.[1] An art gallery, paid for by the Trelleborg City Savings Bank, was built in 1935.[2] The art gallery was designed by the then city architect of Malmö, Carl-Axel Stoltz.[3] It was inaugurated in the presence of the Crown Prince and Princess. At the same time, the sculpture Sjöormen was inaugurated on Stortorget in Trelleborg.
The art gallery was to resemble Ebbe's own studio with green plants and lots of light. "A wish from us would be, if this could be arranged in such a way that the possible building could to some extent remind us of the environment in which the works of art were created among flowers and greenery, as a gift a brighter and happier impression than the usual museum burial chambers" quote from the gift letter to the
