Japan Miyagi Sendai Castle

Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle) was the residence of the Date clan, which had a fiefdom of 620,000 koku. Built at an altitude of about 130m on a natural fortress surrounded by cliffs on the east and south, the castle did not have a castle tower but instead had a large residence to avoid the vigilance of Shogun Ieyasu. Unfortunately, the castle has now disappeared, but the stone walls and reconstructed side turrets are reminiscent of the past. If you stand in front of the statue of Masamune on horseback, you can view the city from the same perspective as Masamune, who was burning with ambition to rule the country.
The tower at the beginning is the former site of the Otemon Gate. There are currently plans to restore the gate.
The equestrian statue is of Date Masamune, also known as the One-Eyed Dragon, who was feared by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
