Japan Shiogama Shrine Hote Festival

The Hote Festival at Shiogama Shrine in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture, is a traditional fire-prevention ritual with a history of over 340 years. A portable shrine weighing approximately 1 ton is carried in turns and paraded through the city for a full day, with shopkeepers and people along the route making offerings.
