This extraordinary Douglas fir is estimated to be around 500 years old, about 150 feet (46 meters) tall, and an astonishing 8 meters (26 feet) in circumference, making it one of the two largest living organisms on the Sechelt Peninsula. Its massive trunk tells an even deeper story: the top of the tree broke off long ago, and had it survived intact, this giant may have stood more than 200 feet (61 meters) tall.

From the forest floor, the scale of this ancient tree is hard to comprehend.
