Step into the historic grounds of Aoba Castle (Sendai Castle), once the seat of the powerful daimyo Date Masamune, and a symbol of Sendai’s samurai heritage. Though much of the original castle no longer remains, the view from the hilltop and the echoes of history still resonate today.
On weekends, that history comes alive again with the Date Bushotai — a local samurai performance group that brings the story of Masamune to life through speeches, swordplay, and reenactments.
