ESZTERHÁZY CASTLE

The castle stands on the foundations of an older 17th-century structure and acquired its present Baroque-Classical appearance around 1762. It was commissioned by the influential Esterházy family, one of the most prominent noble families in the region, who owned vast estates throughout the area. Over the centuries, the castle served various purposes, including a noble orphanage, a correctional institution, and later the administrative center of the local estate. It is surrounded by an extensive English-style park, landscaped in the early 19th century. Today, the Esterházy Castle ranks among the most valuable historical monuments of the Danubian Lowland, reflecting the rich cultural and architectural heritage of southwestern Slovakia.
