BARS-501 (БАРС-501)
BARS-501 was part of the BARS (БАРС) network — an abbreviation for “Боевая Армейская Радиосеть Специальная” (Special Combat Army Radio Network). This was a Soviet strategic communication system built during the Cold War to maintain command and control capabilities in case of nuclear war or large-scale conflict. Each BARS site (numbered 501, 502, 503, etc.) served as a radio relay and command center, often built deep underground or in reinforced bunkers. They were designed to ensure communication between the central command in Moscow and military districts across the Soviet Union even under extreme conditions, such as after a nuclear strike.
