Patiño, the legendary Bolivian tin magnate known as the “Tin King” and once counted among the wealthiest people in the world.** His mining empire helped shape Bolivia’s tin industry, and the railway was essential for transporting minerals from the mines to the outside world.

Today, the museum preserves a fascinating collection of railway heritage, including historic locomotives, a railcar, wooden passenger carriages, a turntable, railway maintenance tools and equipment, and old photographs.

Our guide, Nadine, has a personal connection to this railway's past. Her older brother was a locomotive driver on one of the diesel trains that remained in operation until 1995.
