Okay here we go! Well not really actually, total false start, was trying to do a cool “pull the camera out of the bushes thing and it was too watery, so I did it again. Anyway…
Mile End is a neighborhood in Montreal, Quebec that existed to me for the longest time as a mythological place. As I’ve mentioned before I was in a band called The Deadly Syndrome. Part of our inspiration, and really excitement about the era that we were a part of was the music coming out of Montreal and as far as I know/remember, specifically the bands that were living in Mile End. We’re talking Wolf Parade, Grimes, Mac DeMarco, Arcade Fire, and then in general Canada was killing it, Broken Social Scene and one of my all time favorites, Death From Above 1979.
So here I am, a dude about a decade out of making music and finally finding myself in this neighborhood. So I went for a run, with a 360 #gopro camera on a 4 ft’ selfie stick, totally normal. You’ll see that it’s a bit overcast, and well it’s early so not a lot of life out there. Maybe one day I’ll actually go for a run when people are awake.
This whole summer on the east coast was also very rainy and wet. A lot of folks said it was uncharacteristic, I didn’t have much to judge it by so I just went for it.
Regardless, It was cool to be in this part of town. We had some really good bagels from St-Viateur Bagel. And I look forward to coming back one day and either going to a show here, or if I’m lucky and something crazy happens, playing one.
