Mt. Wolak national park, Ma-e-bul

After finishing the sunrise shoot at Yeongbong, I head down towards Deokjusa Temple, and that's where I encounter a special place: this Rock-carved Buddha. From here to Deokjusa Temple is about 1.5 kilometers, and it's a flat path, which brings a sense of peace. As you walk, the legend of Crown Prince Maeui and Princess Deokju comes to mind, making the moment a little solemn.

It's said that in a dream, a divine message came to Princess Deokju, who was steeped in sorrow over the fall of her nation, instructing her to carve a Buddha here. Thus, Crown Prince Maeui erected a Standing Stone Buddha at Chungju Mireukdaewonji, and Princess Deokju carved this Rock-carved Buddha here. The legend further states that she then remained here, praying for the revival of Silla until her passing.

As I observed the Rock-carved Buddha during my shoot, it felt as if Princess Deokju's sorrowful narrative was being conveyed directly to me.
