One of the oldest forts in India, Purana Quila or 'Old Fort' situated at Delhi was built to its current grandeur by the second Mughal Emperor Humayun and his rival, Sultan Sher Shah Suri in 1538.

Excavations at the site point to its being in use since much earlier, around 1000 BC and was earlier referred to as Pandavo ka Quila, Fort of The Pandavs. The city of Delhi was earlier referred to as Indraprastha, as it was established by Arjun, a Pandav brother also known as the son of Indra. The Indian Epic Mahabharata tells the tale of their rivalry with their siblings, the Kauravas.

Featuring 18 meter high walls traversing roughly 1.5 KM, interjected by 3 Impressive arched gateways, each a double-storeyed sandstone structure flanked by two huge semi-circular bastion towers, the imposing Fort is raised high above its surrounding moat.
Most of the Grandeur is limited to the outer fortifications though and the area inside it is mostly bare and features a few structures which still stand today.
The Quila-ei-Khuna Mosque built by Sher Shah was were the Inhabitants gathered for prayer.
The Sher Mandal, the royal observatory started by Sher Shah but finished by Humayun who died stubling down its two storied, circular stairs.
The remnants of the Hammam Khanna or Bath House.
