Please experience the snowfall here. Accumulating snow can range from large, heavy flakes to the kind of ceaseless snowfall shown in the video. On the day this was filmed, we moved on immediately after shooting to avoid getting caught in a road closure.

This temple enshrines the "Jogi Nyorai" (a sacred image of Amida Buddha). About 800 years ago, following their defeat in the Battle of Dan-no-ura, a member of the Taira clan named Taira no Sadayoshi fled here to escape the pursuing Minamoto forces, bringing the sacred image of Amida Buddha with him. It is said that he changed his name to "Sadayoshi" during this time; this is the origin of the area being named "Sadayoshi" (read as "Jogi" in the local dialect) and the Buddha image becoming known as "Jogi Nyorai." The Taira and Minamoto clans were the pioneering warrior families of Japan. Taira no Kiyomori, a prominent figure of the Taira clan, was also the man who built the famous Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima.
