A bridge to reach the island of Yeu
In the 6th century, Saint-Martin traveled to the region to preach the good word. Seeing the shores of the island of Yeu offshore, he wants to go there to continue his quest. However, no boat can take him away. The devil therefore offers him a pact: he will build a bridge for him, but the first soul to cross it will belong to him. Saint-Martin thinks about it and decides to accept, on condition that the bridge is finished as soon as the rooster crows the next day. The devil calls on leprechauns and gets the rooster drunk to delay his crowing. This produces the opposite effect: during the night, the rooster starts to crow. The leprechauns let go of the blocks they were holding and which today form the five pineaux, for fear of the wrath of the devil.
