3D VR180 Deep Sea Hydrothermal Vent "El Guapo"

El Guapo Vent at the International District vent field on Axial Volcano, Juan de Fuca Ridge, NE Pacific. El Guapo vent appears to have flaming torches at its top. As hydrothermal vents near the undersea boiling point, the liquid can reach phase separation and seemingly be on fire. The vent is approximately 1500m deep.

This footage is filmed by the ROVVR Camera system on board MBARI's ROV Doc Ricketts. The camera system was designed to allow real time telerobotics for pilots and scientists, and to create scaled footage that presents an intuitively accurate sense of size and distance.
