Located in a village in northern China, Xinglong Temple was originally named Xinglong Temple. Its founding date is unknown, but surviving inscriptions indicate it had already taken shape in the early Northern Song Dynasty. The main hall in the north has five rooms, with carved dragons and painted beams, red pillars and flying eaves. The hall is tall and imposing, housing a golden statue of Zhenwu the Great. There are two side halls on each side of the main hall. There are also three rooms each on the east and west sides for worshippers and Taoist priests to rest. The entire temple complex is well-organized, simple yet magnificent. Xinglong Temple faces the clear Xiushui River that flows through the village, backs onto a towering ancient ginkgo tree with a massive canopy, a scenic wonder of Boshan, to the east lies the verdant Dongling Mountain with its ancient cypress trees, and to the west are ancient, uniquely beautiful chinaberry trees growing on the cliff.
