I wake up in the valley and start walking deeper into the Annapurna Sanctuary – this time in full VR180 8K. The trail leads past a powerful waterfall and a small temple, then through Himalaya Village and Dovan as I slowly climb higher into the mountains.

At first the weather looks OK, but this is the Himalayas – it changes in minutes. Later in the day it starts to rain, then snow. The clouds close in, visibility drops and suddenly I’m hiking in a cold, wet tunnel of fog and ice. Mountain weather is completely unpredictable here.

By the time I finally reach Machapuchhre Base Camp, I am totally soaked – like completely watered from head to toe. The hotel gives me a small heater to dry my clothes and warm up, and I just sit there, listening to the storm outside the window.
