I was already unsettled when I suddenly saw the big sign that there would be no winter road maintenance on this road. I got a lot of respect when the sign said 17km of off-road track with an 18% gradient!

Fjarðabyggð is a municipality in the east of Iceland that encompasses several fjords and small villages. It was founded in 1998 and consists of the villages of Eskifjörður, Neskaupstaður, Reyðarfjörður, Fáskrúðsfjörður, Mjóifjörður and Stöðvarfjörður. The region is known for its breathtaking nature, fishing and industry, especially the aluminum sector. Fjarðabyggð offers a mixture of natural beauty, cultural experiences and economic importance, making it an interesting destination for both tourists and residents.
