I have watched many first person perspective VR videos and there is something intimate when the person in the video locks eyes with you. Especially close up. I gathered some of the best close-up photos of faces I could find, as well as created a few with AI. I wanted the viewer to be very close to the subject. It might even be too close for some people\\\'s comfort.
I upscaled all the photos to 8K resolution, color corrected them, and tried to make as many of their backgrounds pure black. Since this video is a flat 3D video and not a spherical VR180 or 360 video, I chose a black background so that it seamlessly blends with the black void when viewing this video in a VR headset.
I used an AI-based app called Owl3D to convert the 2D images to stereoscopic-3D. Some of the photos feel like they are almost popping out of the screen.
While I have created VR animations and videos, this is my first experiment at making an immersive experience just using photographs.
