Coffee shops with sexy DJs are a very popular place for Vietnamese males to spend their day in. Found throughout Vietnam, and rarely seen elsewhere in South East Asia. These coffee shops are dark and with air-conditioning. They open from noon to midnight. DJs are dressed sexy and play songs and dance during their performance, which usually lasts an hour or so. Occasional there are dancers which take the attention off the DJ during that one hour. Audiences will tip in person or send a waitress to bring the money to the stage. DJs will get most of the tips and sometimes dancers will get tips as well. I have seen a pile of money change hands and there are big tippers…

Among the audiences, there are many males that spend less than 100,000 dongs a day sitting in the coffee shop all day playing mobile games and watching DJs and enjoying the cool air-conditioning. Some audiences can be filthy rich and tip everybody ranging from DJs to every waitress. Waitresses are usually pretty and will initiate a chat, and they get about 100,000 dongs per customer a day, and they will try to say hi to every customer and hope to get small tips from every customer. I was told they get about 500,000 dongs a day. With a basic salary of a few million dongs a month. They get a good attendants bonus and also a bonus by meeting monthly drink quotas.
